No child is the same as another. Every child is unique in their looks, interests, learning styles and pace of learning. As a result all classrooms include a group of learners who have mixed abilities, mixed interests and mixed learning styles. Differentiation is a key method for ensuring that all learners are being challenged to reach their potential. However, this can be time-consuming to prepare, and difficult to manage in classes where children are young, and are pre- or early readers and writers. In this session, we reflect on the methods which are typically used in our young learner classrooms and challenge our understanding to ensure we are meeting all of our learners at their current level of understanding and allow each child to learn at their own pace.
